Rehabilitation Beliris Ninove gate

The site “Ninove gate”, located in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, will be used as a park area. Due to the presence of old industrial facilities the soil and groundwater was heavily contaminated. These old industrial facilities comprise an old perfume factory, several body shops for vehicles and a car wash. Furthermore the southern part of the site used to be a turning basin for the nearby canal. During the 20th century the basis was filled in with polluted ground. Over the years the industrial activities caused the soil to be heavily contaminated with oil, chlorinated solvents, asbestos, heavy metals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Contaminations of oil and chlorinated solvents were also found within the groundwater.
